Patrick Mahomes pranks head coach Andy Reid after the win

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas City captains looked like past AFC champions against the Las Vegas Raiders at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday.

The day started with the Raiders dancing on the Chiefs logo on the 50-yard line. It ended with quarterback Patrick Mahomes pranking Coach Andy Reid during his post-match press conference. In between, the chiefs continued their winning streak with 48-9 victory over Raiders.

“You certainly don’t want people to come to your stadium and not respect the things that you’ve built,” Mahomes said. “It gave us a little extra motivation to go out there and win against a really good team that we have a rivalry that’s usually a tough game.”

“I don’t think champions really act that way,” said Chief Defensive Tyrann Mathieu.

The trolling continues after the match is over. The captains played “The Wheels on the Bus” on the public address system inside the stadium.

It’s a reminder of the decision made by former Raiders head coach Jon Gruden last season. He drove the team bus around Arrowhead Stadium after the Raiders beat the Chiefs. It was the first time the Raiders had won in Kansas City in six years.

“We don’t want them to win here again. We went out there and handled the business,” Mahomes said.

The Chiefs feel pleased about Sunday’s victory. So good, in fact, that Mahomes decided to prank Reid before the day was over.

Reid usually speaks first during post-game press conferences, but on Sunday Mahomes made an early appearance in the media room. Instead of walking away and coming back when Reid was done, QB1 decided to pull a man quickly and make the coach feel like he was late.

Mahomes entered the room, looked around, then approached the microphone and motioned for the reporters in the room to be quiet. Then he stood in front of the microphone until Reid entered the room. Reid stopped when he saw Mahomes in front of the microphone first.

“That’s as great as I’ve felt all day,” Reid said as Mahomes smiled, shook Reid’s hand, and walked out of the room.

The Chiefs hope to continue their victory this week. They played Thursday night with the Chargers in Los Angeles.
