Overwatch 2 developers are revealing new game mode details ahead of the upcoming beta

Overwatch 2 developers have revealed a lot of information about the franchise’s newest game mode and some of the upcoming maps that will be released with the beta later in April.

With the Overwatch 2 beta fast approaching and set to go live on April 26th, the game’s developers are preparing players for what to expect when they get their hands on the long-awaited sequel.

Aside from hero overhauls, gameplay changes, and a brand new character available from the start, Overwatch 2 will introduce an all-new mode in the form of Push.

Designed as a sort of tug-of-war between opposing teams trying to get a robot closer to the enemy’s spawn, Push will offer players a very different experience than other modes before it.

In a post on the official Overwatch websiteGame Director Aaron Keller and Art Director Dion Rogers delved into the new mode and upcoming maps: New Queen Street, Colosseo, Midtown and Circuit Royal.

According to Keller, Push will be a much faster game mode compared to Control and Escort, and it sounds like players should expect a much more deathmatch feel.

“[It’s] slightly more porous, meaning it’s easier to flank. You have to monitor multiple locations,” he said.

Additionally, although push maps are symmetrical, players will notice some subtle differences regardless of which side they are on.

PC users can opt-in to the Overwatch 2 beta.

“We wanted to make subtle changes, e.g. B. One half of the map with cooler tones and the opposite side with warmer tones. You’ll find that the signage, storefronts and aesthetics are unique on each side,” Rogers explained.

Additionally, the team wants to add visual cues to improve gameplay as seen in other modes and maps. “We want to highlight the capture point by making it iconic locations like the Firehouse and Grand Central Station in Midtown. Players visually learn where the important parts of the map are, and the world guides the game mode,” added Rogers.

The maps and modes will continue to evolve as well, with the developers promising to monitor closely how players engage and make changes accordingly, so expect some upgrades depending on the results of the beta.
