Overwatch 2 developers revealed in their first update since the beta launched that they have plans for major changes to the game’s ranked mode in upcoming tests.
On May 3rd, the developers of Overwatch 2 released their first to blog since the start of the beta test. In it, they explained where the journey would take them in the future.
They also addressed the future of competitive modes in Overwatch 2. Despite not being included in the first beta test, the developers have big plans for the future in the rankings.
The developers promise a “significant overhaul” to the Overwatch leaderboard.
In the May 3rd blog post, the developers wrote that the first beta only included fast play for two reasons. The first reason is that they wanted to prioritize getting players into games as quickly as possible.
Second, the developers said they are “planning for some significant overhauls to our core ranked and competitive mode systems,” but added that those changes are not yet ready for public testing.
However, the developers haven’t mentioned what these ranking changes might look like whenever they happen. That being said, however, they said we would see them in future betas. So we can at least expect several more beta tests before the Overwatch 2 updates finally go live.
In addition to the changes for the ranked competitive modes, the developers also announced updates and overhauls for support heroes. The support role has become even more important with the advent of 5v5, so it will be interesting to see what changes are made there as well.
If anything, this update just goes to show that Overwatch 2 is still a work in progress. So far, the developers have received a lot of feedback, so we hope they take some of it to heart for these ranking changes.
