FORT WILL, Okla. (KFOR) – A special tradition returns to Fort Sill this Sunday, and Oklahomans are invited to participate.
The annual Fort Sill Candlelight Walk will begin at 5:30 p.m., with groups of 20 hikers touring the historic Old Post Quadrangle, home to original Fort Sill buildings dating back to the years 1870.
According to Keith Pannell, Fort Sill’s Deputy Director of Public Affairs, volunteers will wear vintage attire at the Guard House, Cavalry Barracks, Sherman House, which is still used as the general’s home command, and the Old Post Chapel.
Some tours are already booked, but the following tours are still available: 7pm, 7:15pm, 7:30pm and 7:45pm. Community members can reserve a tour to join the tour by calling (580) 442-5123, according to Pannell.
Those driving to Fort Sill will need a pass through the gate from the Fort Sill Visitor Center, T6701 NW Sheridan Road, Lawton, if they do not have a Department of Defense ID. Pannell advises community members to arrive early to get their tickets through the gate.
Pannell said there are signage along the highway that will direct visitors to the Visitor Center.
