Ohio rapist who posed as an Uber driver sentenced to 41 years in prison

A serial rapist who posed as an Uber driver to kidnap and rape women was sentenced to at least 41 years in prison on Tuesday – as his victims bravely faced him in court.

Christian Burks, of Ohio, pleaded guilty to raping five Cleveland women between October 2017 and May 2020, including two whom he assaulted after posing as an Uber driver, according to

Some of his victims took turns turning to him in court.

“I hope you are haunted by my limp body lying in the back seat of your car. I hope you never live another day without the soul crushing weight of me in your head,” one of the victims told him, the outlet reported. “I’m not weak. I’m not defenseless. I am not an object available to you. I won’t let the thought of you haunt me.”

Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas Judge Joan Synenberg called Burks – who exploited his victims outside downtown restaurants – “cunning” and “ruthless” during sentencing and said he targeted women who tried, sure to get home by taking Ubers.

“There is nothing the victims have done that they take responsibility for what happened to them,” Synenberg said Tuesday, reported. “I hope they can rid themselves of any space you’re taking up in their minds.”

Another victim, who thought she was getting into an Uber when Burks attacked her, also spoke – but was unable to look at him in court.

“I know there are a lot more men and a lot more people who have bad intentions that I can’t save them from,” she said, reported. “But I can stand up here and tell you today that the world is a less safer and more dangerous place for all these young women when this man is granted freedom.”

A third victim sobbed during her testimony and said the attack would haunt her every day: “I never thought my life would come to this. I’ve been tricked into believing someone is what they aren’t,” she said.

Burks, a father of four, also pleaded guilty to four counts of kidnapping, two counts of kidnapping, one count of theft and one count of domestic violence.
