Off-duty Aldine ISD Police Commander shoots suspected car thefts in the Market Square Tower Apartments parking garage

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – An off-duty Aldine ISD police commander opened fire on suspected car thieves in a downtown parking garage Saturday morning, Houston police said.

Around 3 a.m., investigators said someone tried to steal a GMC Denali at the Market Square Tower Apartments in Preston, off Louisiana Street.

The off-duty commander attempted to contact the burglars, but authorities said the thieves fled and almost hit the commander.

The commander fired at the vehicle as they drove away. According to investigators, it is unclear whether anyone was hit.

The Houston Police Department said they had numerous auto thefts at the apartment complex.
