The shameless gunman who unleashed a hail of bullets outside a Brooklyn daycare center targeted a man who put a 2-year-old in the back seat of a car – but hit another toddler who was walking nearby with her father. The police announced on Saturday.
The 3-year-old girl was shot in the shoulder as she left Creative Minds daycare with her father, police said. The little girl remains at the Maimonides Hospital in Brooklyn.
Speaking shortly outside the hospital, the injured girl’s father told The Post of the shooter: “I’ve never seen him in my life.”
“Getting involved in something like that,” he said, shaking his head in disbelief.
The father, who declined to give his name, said the tot was in good shape.
“She’s good. She’s playing. They’re doing an MRI right now to see if her nerve is damaged or something,” he said.
The bullet went through her right shoulder, police sources told the Post. Police officers bandaged the gunshot wound before taking her to the hospital in their own squad car, NYPD department head Kenneth Corey said.
The gunman fired multiple shots at a 28-year-old man who was putting his own toddler in the back of his car, but at least one of the bullets hit the little girl instead, police officers said.
Police officers and day care workers said the shots were fired just after 6 p.m. Friday outside of 127 Riverdale Avenue in Brownsville.
The gunman escaped in a white BMW driven by someone else, police said.
Video from the scene shows the shooter exiting a white car double-parked on the northeast corner of Thomas Boyland Street and Riverdale Avenue. He pulls out a gun and fires several times before running east on Riverdale to the getaway car heading north on Thomas Boyland Street.
Four .380 cartridge cases were found at the scene, police say.
A neighbor at the daycare said the sound of the gunshots was startling.
“About three shots,” said the woman, who asked not to be named. “It was really loud. At first I thought it was welding, but then I thought, welding can’t be that loud after all. I didn’t know it was gunfire until I heard the news this morning.”
