A teenager was shot dead and two others injured when they appeared to be attempting to steal from cars in Queens early Friday, police officers said.
The victims – two 16-year-old boys and a 19-year-old – may have been trying to break into vehicles or steal catalytic converters around 2:30 a.m. at 65th Place near Woodside Avenue when someone shot them, police said .
One of the 16-year-old boys was shot in the left thigh before the trio took off on a scooter and crashed into traffic on 65th Street, cops said.
There, they ran head-on into a car that had stopped at a red light — with a male off-duty New Jersey police officer behind the wheel, officers said.
The driver was not injured, police said.
The youths were arrested at the scene for possession of burglar tools, authorities said.
The other 16-year-old boy suffered injuries to his arm and back from road rashes, and the 19-year-old suffered a fractured right femur, police said.
In an unrelated incident hours earlier in Brooklyn, a 31-year-old man was shot dead on Ocean Parkway near Ditmas Avenue in Kensington at around 11:15 p.m., police said.
He went to Kings County Hospital Center with gunshot wounds to his back and legs and reported hearing gunshots and feeling pain.
He gave no suspicious descriptions and no arrests were made, police said.
Another man was shot dead around 9:45 p.m. in a building on West 25th Street near Mermaid Avenue in Coney Island, police said.
Two men who were outside the building started shooting in the lobby, hitting him in the left leg, police officers said.
The suspects fled and no arrests were made.
