A suspect in a subway robbery was killed when he tried to slip between cars and hit the third rail early Tuesday as he tried to flee the scene, cops and police sources said.
The dead crook was one of four suspects involved in a robbery of a northbound No. 2 train on 174th Street in the Bronx around 6 a.m., police officers said.
The train was pinned down on East 180th Street after the crime – which prompted the robbery crew to run toward the No. 5 line, authorities said.
One of the suspects then began jumping between the carriages of a stationary No. 5 train, where he somehow fell onto the tracks and became trapped under the train, police officers and sources said.
He made contact with the third rail and was pronounced dead, according to police and sources at the scene.
Authorities could not immediately confirm whether he accidentally lost his footing or climbed onto the tracks on purpose.
The three other suspects – all males aged 16, 17 and 18 – were arrested at the scene, police said.
The charges were pending later that morning.
