NYC Mayor Eric Adams uses video of a gunpoint robbery to defend anti-gun squads

Mayor Eric Adams shared a disturbing video Sunday night that captured the moment two attackers robbed a mother and her baby at gunpoint inside a New York City apartment building.

Adams used the clip, which he posted to Twitter, to defend the New York City Police Department’s new anti-gun squads, which he said faced criticism from a “small group of people in” the Big Apple.

In the shocking video, a mother can be seen leading a young child down the stairs into the lobby of an apartment building while two suspects lie in wait out of sight around a corner.

As the mother rounds the corner to the front door, she is approached by one of the men, who pushes her against the wall with the young child at her side, the video shows.

One of the beasts appears to be speaking to the mother while covering her mouth with his hand. His accomplice comes over and the two shake her down before the footage cuts.

When and where the terrible crime happened was unclear. The NYPD was unable to provide any information early Monday morning, and City Hall did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Adams launched the first wave of his anti-gun squads two weeks ago in 28 areas across New York City where shootings have increased during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Public prosecutor Jumaane Williams had previously criticized the formation of the new unit – and expressed fears it would morph into a replica of the NYPD’s infamous anti-crime unit, which was disbanded in 2020.

Some locals also had mixed feelings about the new patrols after they took to the streets earlier this month.

The mayor’s tweet came after he claimed earlier on Sunday that the Big Apple has become a global “laughing stock” as the city collapses amid rising crime and homelessness.
