NYC man opens fire on police officer in Bronx, police sources say

A man fired multiple shots at two NYPD detectives in the Bronx on Friday afternoon after he got into a shootout with another suspect, law enforcement sources said.

The two suspects first shot each other around 4:15 p.m. near East 164th Street and Prospect Avenue in Morrisania, police sources said.

A plainclothes detective who was in the area then began chasing after one of the suspects, prompting the man to point a chrome-plated revolver in the officer’s direction and open fire, the sources said.

The president of the Endowment Endowments Association called the city’s ongoing crime rate a “crisis.”

“The DEA’s message to members is to proceed with extreme caution. New York City is in the midst of a crisis – and our brave detectives are clearly in grave danger,” said President Paul DiGiacomo.

“When you have violent criminals opening fire on identified drug detectives in the Bronx and Secret Service detectives in Manhattan without fear of repercussion, that tells you where we stand in society.

“Our city is sinking fast and if politicians don’t change their failed reform laws soon, there will be no turning back. The DEA will continue to be here to protect our members at all costs.”
