NY Lt. gov. Brian Benjamin arrested for campaign finance

New York Deputy Governor Brian Benjamin was arrested Tuesday in connection with an alleged campaign finance scam, a report said.

Gov. Kathy Hochul’s No. 2 Benjamin Benjamin turned himself in to federal authorities Tuesday morning to face federal bribery conspiracy charges over his alleged involvement in a scheme to funnel fraudulent donations, the New York Times reported.

Benjamin was questioned by the Fed earlier this year as part of a reported investigation into whether he was involved in an alleged conspiracy to illegally channel donations for his failed City Controller campaign.

Benjamin admitted to The Post that he was interviewed in connection with the November conspiracy and wire fraud charges against Harlem landlord and attorney Gerald Migdol, who is accused of making illegal “straw” donations to Benjamin’s campaign.

In November, Migdol was arrested for allegedly orchestrating a scheme to direct illegal campaign funds for Benjamin’s unsuccessful 2021 bid.

Migdol made contributions by money order in someone else’s name and compensated donors who gave money to an auditor candidate from 2019 to 2021, the indictment said. NY Lt. gov. Brian Benjamin arrested for campaign finance
