Nvidia announced that the RTX4090 will be up to four times faster than its predecessor, the RTX 3090 Ti. According to the company, DLSS 3 and better ray tracing performance ensure the card’s exponential increase in performance.
Nvidia claims the RTX 4090 is up to four times more powerful than the RTX 3090 Ti
Nvidia’s claims that the RTX 4090 is up to four times more powerful are currently untested. You should also note that this number comes with the caveat that it’s only that much faster than the RTX 3090 Ti in certain applications. According to Nvidia, users should only expect twice the performance when it comes to gaming.
Without benchmarks, we simply have to take Nvidia at its word. In the PC hardware world, every new generation launches with promises of “twice as fast” and “twice the performance,” only for us to find out that those claims are only valid in very specific circumstances. However, the RTX 4090 might surprise us. DLSS 3 is rolling out alongside the 40 series cards and as it’s exclusive to the new GPUs we’re likely to see fantastic performance in games that support it.
We’re curious (but cautious) if the RTX 4090 is everything Nvidia says it will be. Luckily, demand for GPUs has dropped a lot lately, so we might actually be able to find one for $1,599 MSRP when the card launches on October 12, 2022.
Also, Nvidia RTX Remix won’t work with every classic PC game, and the company has released a list of games that will be compatible with DLSS 3 at launch.
