UConn was slow for much of the night before UMES, which entered as 33 points behind, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

The Huskies took a 39-31 lead at halftime, but failed to score in the first four minutes of the second half, leaving them 42-41 ahead of Da’Shawn Phillip.

That’s as close as the Hawks (2-5) have gotten.

A trick from freshman Jordan Hawkins from a missed free-throw helped UConn in the 14-5 streak extend their lead to 11 points.

UMES had another run, taking the lead 66-62 in a back jump by Chace Davis, but the Huskies kept going.

The Hawks beat UConn throughout the first half by hitting 12 of their 24 shots from the floor and overtaking the Huskies 14-11.

But UMES took the lead only twice, with a score of 11-9 over 3 points by Zion Styles and 15-14 after being scored by Donchevell Nugent.
