NRCC ends ads for Ohio GOP House candidate JR Majewski after reports revealed a lie about deployment to Afghanistan

The National Republican Congressional Committee is pulling $1 million in criminal charges for Ohio GOP House candidate JR Majewski after it was revealed his claims about post-9/11 service in Afghanistan were false.

Majewski’s apparent deceit was laid out in a bombastic report on Wednesday by the Associated Press, which has military documents contradicting the candidate’s claims that he served in Afghanistan while in the Air Force.

According to the AP report, the NRCC canceled plans to run scheduled TV ads in support of Majewski just weeks before the midterm elections

The military documents show that Majewski, posing as a combat veteran, spent six months at an air force base in Qatar, an American ally, helping load planes and did not see active combat.

He once described not showering for 40 days due to a lack of running water while reportedly deployed to Afghanistan, and has repeatedly used his veteran status as a key element of his campaign for Congress.

Real combat veterans took offense at Majewski’s claims.

“Veterans have done so much for this country, and when you claim to have done what your brothers in arms actually did to build your reputation, that’s a disservice,” said Don Christensen, retired colonel and former chief prosecutor for the Air force, the AP said.

Majewski did not directly respond to questions about his Afghanistan service claims, the publication said.

Instead, he said he was proud to have served the county.

“My achievements and record are being attacked while career politician Marcy Kaptur has a 40-year record of failure for my community in Toledo, which is why I am running for Congress,” he added.

Majewski, a vocal Trump supporter, is taking on longtime Democratic incumbent Marcy Kaptur in Ohio’s 9th congressional district, which was recently drafted in favor of Republicans.

Kaptur, who has represented the Toledo area since 1983, slapped her opponent for his military misrepresentation.

“The idea that anyone, let alone a candidate for the United States Congress, would mislead voters about their service in combat is an affront to every man and woman who has proudly worn the uniform of our great country. JR Majewski owes each of these heroes a full explanation of his deception,” Kaptur said in a statement.
