But Forest believed they were hit hard by VAR with just minutes left in the thrilling tie.

Ryan Yates rushed on goal in the 85th minute for a dramatic equalizer.

He tried to hit the ball around Liverpool Goalkeeper Alisson stretching wide in vain after charging from his station.

And a full throttle from both men saw Yates go down in the pits.

The Waldstar and his teammates wildly protested to the referee that it should be a penalty.

However, VAR entered the chat as Stockley Park officials reviewed the footage.

And replays suggested that although Alisson’s decision had been hasty, there was minimal contact between him and Yates, who also appeared to be pulling his leg out.

However, Forest players and fans disagreed as home fans were still booing the decision after the final whistle.

But there was a mixed reaction on Twitter from football fans, with a seemingly even split between those who thought it was a penalty and those who believed VAR made the right decision.

Speaking for Forest, a fan said: “How was that not a penalty?

“If that was at the other end I’d bet my house it was a penalty.

“Forest has been cut down properly.”

Another wrote: “I’m genuinely sorry for Forest today, very questionable decisions.”

One added: “Why isn’t it a penalty when the goalkeeper’s hand clearly touched the Forest player’s boot?

“There was definitely contact.”

In the opposing corner, a fan tweeted: “Never a penalty. Forest player should have been booked for kicking Alisson.”

Another explained: “This is fierce from Forest demanding a penalty. He literally put his foot over Alisson’s arm to make contact.”

One person added: “No penalty Forest player trying to initiate contact with his back leg.”
