Former US Ambassador to the United Nations and White House Nikki Haley endorsed Republican Michael Henry for New York State Attorney General amid a feud with Democratic incumbent AG Letitia James.
Haley last month accused James’ office of violating tax laws by leaking the list of donors to her conservative nonprofit advocacy group, Stand for America.
“Michael Henry is the outsider New Yorkers need to stand up to the corruption that has plagued the Empire State,” Haley said in a statement provided to the Post on Wednesday.
“I am proud to support him because he is pro-law and pro-government transparency and will restore the integrity of the New York Attorney General’s office,” Haley said.
Henry was thrilled to be endorsed by a major national Republican figure to launch his underdog campaign.
“I am proud to have the support of Ambassador Nikki Haley. She is a leader who is not afraid to speak out against corrupt and illegal behavior from my opponent’s office. She knows I will stamp out this corruption and brazen political attacks that have no place in such a prestigious office,” Henry said.
James, a Democrat seeking re-election to a second term, made waves on Wednesday and filed a $250 million lawsuit against former President Donald Trump, his children Eric, Ivanka and Donald Trump Jr., and the Trump Organization filed – with claims of “harrowing” fraud in the family real estate business.
Haley, who is considering running for president in 2024, was also in the headlines.
Former US Ambassador to the United Nations under former President Donald Trump, Haley, on Wednesday accused President Biden of failing to call countries allegedly supporting Russia’s invasion of Ukraine during his speech to the UN General Assembly — under appeal on China, North Korea and Iran.
The former South Carina governor also called The View co-host Sunny Hostin a “racist” for accusing her of acting like a “chameleon” and hiding her Indian heritage behind a fake name.
Haley has had her middle name Nikki since childhood, which roughly translates from Hindu as “little one”.
“Thanks for your concern @Sunny,” the ex-ambassador tweeted. “It’s racist of you to judge my name. Nikki is an Indian name and it’s on my birth certificate – and I’m proud of that.
“Sad is the hypocrisy of the left towards conservative minorities. By the way, last time I checked, Sunny isn’t your maiden name…”
The James campaign had no immediate comment on Haley’s endorsement of Henry.
Haley has endorsed more than 50 Republican candidates for this election through her Stand for America PAC and helped raise $5 million for her campaigns.
