Nicki Minaj Receives the Video Vanguard Award at the 2022 MTV VMAs

The “Queen” gets the royal treatment.

Music majesty Nicki Minaj is poised to receive MTV’s coveted Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2022 Video Music Awards on August 28th.

As he accepted the enviable moon man – an accolade previously earned by posh pop culture like Madonna, 63; Janet Jackson, 56; LL Cool J, 54; Missy Elliot, 51; and the late David Bowie – Minaj will make her long-awaited return to the VMAs stage for her first appearance at the annual awards since 2018.

“Nicki has broken down barriers for women in hip-hop with her versatility and creative artistry,” said Bruce Gillmer, a top executive at Paramount+, which owns MTV Network, in a statement about the 39-year-old honoree.

The Video Vanguard honor for Minaj — a five-time VMA winner and 17-time Queens nominee — is a blessing amid a barrage of personal but public hurdles.

On Wednesday, Charles Polevich — the 73-year-old man responsible for the killing of her father Robert Maraj, 64, in a hit-and-run accident on Long Island in February 2021 — was sentenced to just a year in prison.

In July, the “Anaconda” rapper’s husband Kenneth Petty, 44, was sentenced to three years’ probation and a year of house arrest for attempting to rape a 16-year-old girl in 1995 for not reporting himself as a sex offender in the state California. He was also fined $55,000.

Minaj and Petty have a 2-year-old son together.

Following his sentencing, the “Chun Li” luminary shared a series of family photos with her more than 201 million Instagram followers.

And in the trailer for her forthcoming six-part documentary, which she teased via Twitter on July 28, Minaj subtly credited Petty with helping her make the “strongest I’ve ever been in my life.”

In her tweet, the New York native noted that her documentary of the same name is Coming SOON!!!!.

And her new single “Super Freaky Girl” will be released on August 12th.
