Congratulations football fan! Your favorite team won the draft!
The combination of 1) an absolute, statewide obsession with the NFL and 2) an absolute lack of quality information about a sport that’s almost impossible to properly analyze in real-time has resulted in a booming draft-coverage economy. It seems that every outlet releases numerous mock drafts in the run-up to Draft Day(s) and then offers instant analysis of each team’s performance.
The goal is to contextualize each choice because fans care and fans click. Sheet music designs are fun! Everyone reads them, although years later, when perspectives have developed or not, the notes can look terribly informed.
If you look far enough, you can find hope for every single team in the NFL. In a year or two (or a month or two) every team will realize mistakes they made and bemoan at least a few picks. Right now, however, every single name is surrounded by optimism that you didn’t hear about a week ago.
