I’ll start by stating the obvious: Disparaging someone because of their race is unacceptable, non-American, and should be condemned wholeheartedly.
However, the disparaging treatment of a black football coach by a white football team owner has nothing to do with racism, unless the coach’s race is the basis for the ill-treatment. bad.
Specifically, Brian Flores, a native New Yorker born to Honduran parents who identifies as “black,” has been fired from his position as head coach of the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League. family. inside NFL, like other tournaments, if one team loses, the other team benefits. Toppled coaches often find other teams willing to give them a try.
In this case, Flores was prepared to take the job as head coach of the New York Giants, only to conclude that the team had decided to hire someone else before talking to him and that the only reason the Giants even didn’t. even gave him an interview to complete the NFL’s Rooney Rule, asked teams to interview at least one minority candidate for head coach positions. Flores is now to sue NFL and all 32 of its teams because of racist recruiting practices.
Flores’ discovery of the Giants’ alleged tactics was quite comical, as his former boss, the New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, texted Flores to congratulate him on getting the Giants job – although Flores has yet to be interviewed. Apparently, Belichick was about to text another Brian who ended up getting the job, Brian Daboll. He’s white.
Then come comment from former quarterback and current analyst Boomer Esiason that the Giants offered the job to Daboll a few days before they officially announced it.
Please note, this is speculation, but the allegations make sense: 1) The giant decided to hire Daboll before the official interview process ended; 2) footballing figures such as Belichick and Esiason are known; and 3) the interview with Flores is a mere formality, necessary to satisfy the Rooney Rule.
Time has shown incompetence on the Giants’ part, and if indeed their decision to hire Daboll is final before speaking to Flores, it could well be a violation of the Rooney Rule. But it has nothing to do with racist.
My field is not professional football; that is educationand I know a lot about how things work. When an educational institution seeks to hire a new principal, department chair, or even president, powers are often taken into account. Why give a chance to a stranger when you feel more secure promoting someone from the inside you’ve worked with for years?

But it’s not as simple as that – there are too many policies, protocols, and procedures that require full and open search. These extensive, frequent nationwide searches can take months, sadly disappointing dozens if not hundreds of hopeful applicants who don’t realize they never got the chance. . All it takes is a facade, an ornate show of dogs and horses to show good faith in opening up the quest to the outside world. In fact, the candidate with the inside line already has all the jobs in the bag. And, again, it has nothing to do with race.
Flores seems to be a poor bastard who has been mocked for a while. The Giants were forced to interview a minority, and the recently fired Flores was a great choice to tick that box.
Following the announcement of her lawsuit, Flores accused Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is angry with him for not losing any more games so that the Dolphins’ poor performance would make them a high pick in the next draft and even gave Flores $100,000 la bonus for every match he loses. Ross was vehement denied the charges, calling them completely untrue and defamatory. This is a classic “he said, she said” problem.
Furthermore, because Flores’ lawsuit involves the entire league, it can uncover instances where actual personnel decisions are based on race. I doubt it, because sport is one of the greatest examples of anti-racism out there. There are no colors on the football field; The object of the game is to win and you will put in the personnel that give you the best chance of doing so.
For example, black Americans make up more than 14% of the population, but more 57 percent of NFL players. Obviously, the owners don’t mind signing black players if they are the best in their position, so why should they attract the attention of head coaches?
Ironically, Other Flores, Tom (not related to Brian), is a freestyle Hall of Fame player who has the honor of being one of only two individuals (Mike Ditka being the other) to win the Super Bowl as a Super Bowl. is a player, assistant coach and head coach. He is also of Hispanic descent. Such statistics can hurt the case of Brian Flores.
What’s evident about the whole Giants interview facade is that there’s absolutely no indication that Flores would have a greater chance of landing the head coach job if he were white. The issue has absolutely nothing to do with racism.
