A brazen shoplifter knocked a 77-year-old woman unconscious as she fled a Barnes & Noble in Manhattan on Saturday – and got away with nothing but $35 in Funko Pop! toys, according to police.
Store employees spotted the thief, who was kidnapping two of the popular action figures from the retailer on 17th Street near Union Square, around 12:20 p.m. and attempted to grab him, police officers said.
The unidentified elderly victim entered the store as the fleeing thug punched her, knocking her to the ground and knocking her unconscious, according to police.
The woman was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where her condition is stable with a head injury.
Police released video footage of the suspect on Sunday and said he fled south on Union Square and then turned east on East 15th Street towards Irving Place.
Footage first shows the thief ‘browsing’ the store before grabbing the toys and bursting out the door into the unsuspecting elderly victim.
The suspect was last seen wearing a blue hoodie, gray sweatpants and gray sneakers and was described as in his 20s, about 5ft 3 and of medium build, police officers said.
Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact NYPD Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577 TIPS or online at crimestoppers.nypdonline.org.
