NEW YORK (AP) – Buck Showalter has been hired as manager of the New York Mets, bringing him back to the Big Apple to take over his fifth-biggest team. The former Yankees captain replaces Luis Rojas, who was let go in early October after two failed seasons. Mets owner Steve Cohen announced the move Saturday afternoon on Twitter. Showalter has managed more than 3,000 major league games over 20 seasons, making the Mets an experienced bench boss for the first time since Terry Collins’ seven-year tenure ended after a five-year campaign. 2017. Showalter has a long history of turning losing teams, which certainly makes him an attractive candidate for Cohen and the new Mets general manager, Billy Eppler.
