Simmons said: “We heard the crash and then I flew over the fence.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s office, three people were killed and four injured when a pickup truck collided with an SUV just after 1 a.m. Saturday.
“For us, it was like corpses everywhere. That’s what you see on TV. You don’t see that in real life,” said Beal, Simmons’ cousin.
Harris County sheriff’s deputies believe the 70-year-old driver of the red Toyota Sienna was at fault in the fatal crash, though they believe the driver of the 32-year-old second vehicle involved was intoxicated. .
Deputies said a silver Toyota Rav4 was driving north on Barker Cypress Road, approaching the intersection, while a Sienna was turning left from the southbound lane of Barker Cypress into Barkers Branch.
That’s when investigators said Sienna failed to give way when turning left and was hit by Rav4.
“Currently, Sienna is at fault in this crash but it is being rebuilt to determine if speed could play any role and also possibly drunkenness, so the charge could be future upgrades,” explains Sgt. Beat with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said three of the six people inside the van were not wearing seat belts and were ejected in the collision.
Two of them died at the scene and one of them later died at the hospital.
The truck driver and another passenger were taken by ambulance to another hospital, where delegates said the passenger died.
The driver suffered serious, but not life-threatening, injuries, according to deputies.
“One of those transported was pronounced dead, also at the hospital,” Sgt. “The driver and sole occupant of the Toyota Rav4 was driven to the Hermann Katy Memorial, where she displayed clues to her intoxication,” Beatty said.
The women who came to help were still shaken by what they saw.
Simmons said, “It’s hard to think that I could be that woman’s last face before she dies. So I think for our family, because that’s all we are about. thought, it brings us some peace.”
They hope the flowers they put at the intersection honor the victims and remind others to drive more carefully.
“You can hear how fast the cars are driving. Yeah, they definitely need to slow down. It’s going to happen again,” Beal said.
