New musical based on Muhammad Ali’s life comes to Broadway

A brand new Broadway musical based on the life of boxing legend Muhammad Ali was announced Wednesday in a collaboration with Ali’s widow, Lonnie Ali.

The show, which has yet to announce casting or premiere dates, will be helmed by Olivier-nominated director Clint Dyer, according to the Hollywood Reporter, and will also feature music by Teddy Adams.

“Ali’s examples of grace, passion, strength of mind, coolness under fire and smiling through it all were a great role model for millions, including me,” said producer Richard Willis.

“We are delighted to theatrically honor Ali’s life and legacy; It is an exceptionally entertaining and impactful new musical for the whole world to enjoy.”

Ali’s wife Lonnie also issued a statement of her own, saying how happy she is to bring her late husband’s legacy to life.

“Muhammad was and continues to be a source of inspiration for so many artists around the world,” Ali said.

“I’m so proud to support this project and very excited to see his story come to life on the Broadway stage.”
