According to a report, a hit-and-run driver in New Jersey struck a horse, killing the animal and injuring its 14-year-old teenage rider.
The crash happened in Gloucester County Tuesday night, nj.com reported.
The teenager, a Sicklerville resident, was riding on the shoulder of Monroeville Road in Franklin Township just before 8 p.m. with a 21-year-old Camden man riding a second horse, local police said.
Police are looking for an older, light-colored pickup truck in connection with the callous accident, police said.
The injured teenager was taken to Cooper University Hospital in Camden with non-life-threatening injuries, where she was listed in stable condition, police said.
The doomed horse died at the scene and was returned to its owner, nj.com reported. The other rider and his steed were not injured.
