NC State Trooper crashes car, kills brother and another driver during traffic stop in Rutherford County

Trooper John Horton passed an unnamed driver just before 9 p.m. in Rutherford County about an hour west of Charlotte.
The second soldier, John’s brother James Horton, lost control of his patrol car while approaching a traffic stop. James crashed into John’s patrol car, forcing it into both John and the unnamed driver. Both of them died from their injuries.
Colonel Freddy L. Johnson Jr., commander of the State Highway Patrol, said: “Our hearts are broken for the loss of our friend and brother, Soldier John Horton. “For all involved in this tragic event, the days ahead will certainly be difficult, but we are committed to standing with them with thoughts, prayers and unwavering support. .”
James suffered minor injuries after the collision.
The State Bureau of Investigation is looking into the cause of the accident.
No further details have been released about the unnamed driver who was killed in the crash.
