National’s Aaron Dessner defends Taylor Swift amid singer’s feud with Damon Albarn ‘totally unprovoked’

National vanguard Aaron Dessner protected Taylor SwiftThe singer’s “great composition” in the feud with the star Gorrilaz Damon Albarn.

After Albarn claimed Swift “didn’t write her own songs” in a recent interview with LA TimesDessner criticized the British musician’s “completely meaningless” comments about the “All Too Well” singer.

On Tuesday (January 25), Dessner tweeted: “Not sure why you, Damon Albarn, are trying to discredit Taylor’s brilliant writing but as someone who has noted the press around around her… your statements couldn’t be further from the truth… you are clearly completely oblivious to her actual writing and working process.”

In addition to co-producing Swift’s 2020 albums, Always and won a Grammy FolkloreDessner is also credited as a producer with many rewards From the vault track on Swift’s re-recorded versions of “Fearless” and “Red” was released last year.

On Monday (January 24)LA Times published an interview with Albarn in which the “Jungle” singer claimed most modern musicians rely on “sound and attitude” to carry out their performances.

When the interviewer mentioned Swift as an example of someone who doesn’t rely on these things and called her “an excellent musician,” Albarn replied, “She doesn’t write her own songs.”

Journalist Mikael Wood replied: “Of course it is. Co-wrote some of them. “

Of this, Albarn said: “That doesn’t count. I know what co-writing is. General writing is very different from writing. I’m not hating anyone, I’m just saying there’s a big difference between a songwriter and a co-composer. Doesn’t mean the results can’t be really great.”

Ironically, Albarn called “Billie Eilish and her brother” a “really interesting musician” as a counterexample to Swift.

In an article for The Independent, Kevin Perry points out that Billie and Finneas Eilish are “the perfect example of songwriters who co-wrote all of their material,” which is the “same crime” that Albarn believes Swift is guilty of.

Swift responds to Albarn’s comment about her on Twitter last night. The singer, who is officially credited with writing or co-writing all of her music, tweeted that she was “a huge fan” of Albarn until she saw this.

“I write ALL my own songs. Your hotness is completely wrong and damaging. You don’t have to like my songs but it’s really hard to try and discredit my writing. Wow,” said the Grammy Award winner.

“P.S., I wrote this tweet alone in case you were wondering,” she added mockingly.
