Mystery Text: Mother Debbie Collier’s body was found naked and burned

The Georgia mother, who was found dead in a ravine the day after sending her daughter a distressing message, was discovered naked and with severe burns to her body, according to a police incident report.

Debbie Collier, 59, was found about 60 miles from her home after she transferred $2,385 to her daughter Amanda Bearden on September 10, along with a shocking message.

“They won’t let me go I love you there is a key to the house in the blue flowerpot by the door,” she wrote.

Collier, who lived with her husband and daughter, left home in a rented SUV for repairs on her car, taking only her credit card and driver’s license with her.

Police were able to trace the vehicle’s satellite radio signal to US441 near Victory Home Lane, and deputies discovered the car, which the incident report said was parked in a turnout near a disused logging road.

An investigator “then observed a naked woman lying on her back and grasping a small tree with her right hand” about 30 feet from the road, according to the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office.

The document also noted “charring of her abdomen” and the remains of a burned tarp nearby – along with a red shopping bag.

The report said Bearden – who became “hysterical” at the scene – told investigators that her mother had no mental health problems or “suicidal tendencies.”

According to the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office, an investigator saw “a naked woman lying on her back and clutching a small tree with her right hand.”

The grieving daughter also told police her mother had back pain and would not have ventured voluntarily into the wooded area where she was found.

Her husband, Steve Collier, told investigators that he last saw his wife at 9 p.m. on Saturday. He said their car was still in the driveway when he drove to work the next morning.

Along with other relatives, Collier watched as the deputies removed her remains from the ravine. The couple had been married since 2013.

Collier’s daughter, Amanda Bearden, received a text message from her mother before her disappearance, which read: “They will not let me go.

Bearden told police it was “unusual” for her to embark on a long journey without notifying her family.

Investigators have not yet announced an official cause of death.
