My son was punished by his school for wearing nice fancy socks

A SCHOOLBOY was punished by teachers for wearing a pair of “nice dress socks” – all because they were stained.
Angry mum Lorna Fearn stood up for her son Sacha, who received a school sanction for his dress code from Astrea Academy Sheffield.
Sacha, 11, has been wearing the stylish pair since he started seventh grade in September but was beaten to three demerits after a sock check last Wednesday.
School policy enforces a uniform of black socks, but Sacha’s were black with red patches.
His mum Lorna insisted the socks were smart enough to wear with a suit, saying the school should “soften things up on the students”.
But Sacha wasn’t just charged with that shoe penalty on Wednesday – he faced the same penalty again the next day.
He’d arrived with a similar pair because they were the only clean change of socks he had after spending the night at his father’s.
One teacher even asked Sacha to wear an extra pair of black socks over his stained one, but the child-sized spare socks were too small for his 10-foot height.
said Lorna The star: “My son started seventh grade with a pair of nice suit socks that we thought were perfect – they’re things you wear with suits.
“They say you can only wear black socks, but that wasn’t really enforced until this week.
“He’s been wearing this pair since September. This week his class teacher did a sock check. Sacha had spots, so he was punished.
“I managed to rummage through to find some plain black ones. But if I couldn’t have done it, would I have been expected to buy some before school or send him in without socks?
“I just think they need to loosen up a bit on the students after everything they’ve been through with the pandemic and lockdowns. It’s like the coronavirus didn’t exist.”
Astrea Academy Sheffield said in a statement to the newspaper: “Astrea Academy Sheffield is committed to the highest standards of teaching and learning. Our consistent policy has been communicated regularly to parents and carers and is also available online.

“Our staff also communicate policy to grantees on a daily basis, including procedures when consistent standards are not met
“This week we conducted a series of Behavior and Expectation Reset sessions where, through extended gatherings and specific time with class teachers, we reminded students of their personal responsibilities in relation to the uniform.
“If parents have concerns, we encourage them to raise them directly with us. We are committed to supporting the families of our grantees where needed.”
