(Reuters) – Honda’s six-time MotoGP champion Marc Marquez will not compete in the Indonesian Grand Prix later on Sunday after being ruled unfit with concussion following a fall during the warm-up session, organizers said.
Marquez suffered a shock highside at turn seven and was visibly dazed after landing heavily on the left side and taking a hit to the head. Hospital tests revealed the Spaniard had suffered a concussion.
The 29-year-old fell twice in qualifying on Saturday. He was due to start from 14th on the grid after making up a place following Franco Morbidelli’s three-place penalty.
Organizers said Sunday the race would be shortened from 27 to 20 laps due to tire safety concerns caused by the extreme heat at the Mandalika track. The start of the race was then delayed due to torrential rain.
Reigning World Champion Fabio Quartararo will start from pole in Indonesia’s first MotoGP race since 1997.
