Most Say Biden Attack on Trump, MAGA Will Divide US Further: Poll

Most Americans believe President Biden’s primetime speech last week, in which he attacked former President Donald Trump and his Make America Great Again movement as a threat to the country, will serve only to to further divide Americans.

The Reuters/Ipsos poll found that 59% of respondents said Biden’s Sept. 1 remarks at Independence Hall in Philadelphia would further fray national unity — and nearly half of respondents didn’t even bother to close the speech see.

“Too much of what is happening in our country today is not normal,” the president said at the time. “Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic.”

“There is no question that the Republican Party today is dominated, driven and intimidated by Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans. And that’s a threat to this country,” Biden continued in what the White House described as remarks on the “fight for the soul of the nation.”

Trump himself fired back two days later in a speech in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, saying Biden’s speech was filled with “hate and anger.”

“Joe Biden came to Philadelphia, Pa., to deliver the most vicious, hateful and divisive speech ever made by an American president, vilifying 75 million citizens,” the 45th president said at his rally on Saturday. “You are all enemies of the state. He’s an enemy of the state, if you want to know the truth.”
