MONZO is struggling with customers being unable to make payments or access their accounts with just a few hours left until Christmas Day.
According to the website Downdetector, the problem started happening around 4pm this afternoon, with more than 1,300 complaints quickly logged by users.
These issues appeared concentrated in London, with 67% of reports related to mobile banking and 21% of online banking issues.
Angry customers took to Twitter to lament the bank’s failure so close to Christmas.
One said: “Like maybe there’s a worse time for it to go down?!”
Another added: “Any estimate of the timing [it will be fixed]? There are many people who need to buy things today. “
A worried customer asked: “What’s going on? All my online transactions are being declined, even though there is money in my account.”
Monzo tweeted: “We’re very sorry about this! We know the issue affects the Monzo app – rest assured we’re looking into the issue and working to get everything up and running like we were. said. Thank you for your patience.”
Challenger Bank Monzo launched in 2015 and quickly became popular with young users due to its easy-to-use app and brightly colored cards.
According to Statista, the bank grew to 5 million customers in February of this year.
