Mom pleads for justice two years after her son was shot dead outside the Fondren Inn in southwest Houston

HOUSTON, TX (KTRK) — It’s been two years since 24-year-old Diantre Felder was shot about 20 times and found outside the Fondren Inn in southwest Houston, and still no arrest.

“I thought it was resolved by now,” said Felder’s mother, who is being referred to as Jane Doe because she wishes to remain anonymous.

Desperate for answers, Doe returned to the site where her son was murdered in May 2020.

“The scene takes me back to where it happened and I’m at a loss for words. But all I know is that I have to find the person who murdered my son,” Doe said.

At around 3am on May 23, 2020, Felder was found slumped in front of the driver’s door of his car at the entrance to the Fondren Inn car park at Block 13200 of Fondren Road.

“I can only imagine how he felt getting shot so many times,” Doe said.

Deputies at the time believed it was an in-car shooting that may have taken place further down Fondren Road, but the Houston Police Department has not provided any updates.

“I just have to call to see if they have any news,” Doe said. “All they’re saying is they’re going to catch that person eventually or come forward. But it’s been two years and still no one has contacted me.”

According to HPD data, Felder is one of 195 murders in 2020. Of those cases, 61% were solved and 76 cases left no arrests.

Although Felder has a criminal record, including drug offenses and illegal possession of firearms, his mother said she doesn’t know why anyone would want to kill her son – a father who leaves behind two young sons.

“He has boys who ask about their dad every day,” Doe said.

ABC13 has contacted the Houston Police Department and is waiting to hear from investigators where the case is located and if there have been any leads.

His mother said she is not giving up, and while she awaits justice, she forgives her son’s killer.

“It takes a lot of prayer, but I’m a forgiving mother,” Doe said. “I forgive them because they don’t know any better. But I mourn a bit every day because I will never forget this day.”
