A representative of the Brooklyn-born boxer claims his actions were in response to Townsendwho is said to have molested him at the San Francisco airport.

But Tyson could face a lawsuit as Townsend – reportedly a convicted thief and fraudster – hired a lawyer, reports TMZ.

His lawyer, Morgan & Morgan’s Matt Morgan, says Townsend was “overly excited” – but denies a water bottle was thrown into the tense interaction.

“Our client is a huge Mike Tyson fan,” he said TMZ.

“When Mike Tyson got on the plane, he got overly excited. Initially, their interaction was cordial.

“At a certain point, Mr Tyson clearly got agitated by an overly excited fan and started over-slapping him.

“This situation could have been avoided simply by contacting the flight attendant. Our client denies throwing a water bottle before being hit by Mr Tyson.”

After the commotion on Wednesday, Townsend declined to press charges after being treated for what appeared to be minor injuries.

Mr Morgan added: “To state the obvious, as one of the greatest fighters of all time, Mr Tyson should have exercised greater restraint before laying his hands on an overly excited fan.”

The incident occurred before a flight that was scheduled to depart San Francisco International Airport for Florida at 10:30 p.m. local time.

Witnesses claim The Baddest Man on the Planet was initially “cool” to all of his fellow passengers, including the one sitting behind him and his friend.

Iron Mike even agreed to take a selfie with one of the two, remaining “patient” as the other man in the row sat behind him.

However, the passenger reportedly continued to “annoy” the boxing legend, and it is said to be so when the American boxer snapped.

Tyson was caught on camera delivering a series of punches to the face, ultimately causing his forehead to bleed.

A Tyson spokesman said: “Unfortunately, on a flight, Mr Tyson had an incident with an aggressive passenger who began harassing him and threw a water bottle at him while he was sitting in his seat.”

But it has since emerged that Townsend, of Punta Gorda, Fla., has a long criminal record, having served 20 and 15-month sentences for a variety of crimes.

These include possession of oxycodone, burglary, grand larceny, fraud and dealing in stolen property, according to a file search.

That 36 years old stole a trailer in 2018 by trespassing and hitching it to his pickup truck, TMZ reports.

Townsend was last released from a Florida prison in July 2020 after serving 15 months of a 25-month sentence for the incident and use of a fraudulent ID card.

But the incident doesn’t appear to have phased Tyson too much as the 55-year-old was pictured upon arrival Hotel in Miami with a big smile on your faceand happily stopped to pose for selfies with fans.
