Miguel Angel Buezo, a man who has been on the run in Houston for years to face charges in the 2017 murder of his girlfriend Karen Ramirez

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A man accused of killing his girlfriend in 2017 is back in Harris County to face a murder charge.

Miguel Angel Buezo, 32, made his first court appearance last week. He was charged with the murder of 26-year-old Karen Ramirez in April 2017 and fled the country, according to court documents.

Ramirez was reported missing on March 24, 2017. A neighbor told police she heard Buezo in the driveway of her home in Lakehurst, southeast Houston, early that morning, Buezo yelling at Ramirez and saying, “I’m going to shoot you.”

A week later, Ramirez’s car was found with “blood on and under the driver’s seat” and a “bullet hole in the passenger door,” according to court documents. But the young mother remained missing.

For weeks, Texas EquuSearch volunteers combed the woods near where the couple lived, and Buezo fled the country. He was arrested in Guatemala last April. Delivery took almost a year.

Last Friday, a hearing officer upheld an earlier decision to deny bail pending a hearing.

Ramirez’s body was never found.

The Houston Police Department is asking anyone with information about her remains to contact Homicide at 713-308-3600.
