Microsoft shareholders oppose proposal to seek reports of harassment

(Reuters) – Microsoft Corp on Tuesday said its shareholders had approved a proposal by Arjuna Capital, which seeks a report from the software company on the effectiveness of its anti-sexual harassment policies. education in the workplace.

About 80 percent of the votes at the company’s annual meeting supported the release of such a report, Microsoft said in a filing.

Arjuna Capital is a Boston-based investment advisor and frequent submitter of shareholder resolutions, pressing companies to make changes such as disclosing more equity data.

Microsoft internally shares data annually on the number of sexual harassment concerns raised and the results of investigations into them. It has now adopted plans to make that data public.

The vote comes as major mutual fund companies increasingly support investor challenges facing companies on environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues, and as employees of the Major tech companies have stepped forward to protest their handling of sexual harassment allegations.

Automaker Tesla Inc said last month its support for a shareholder resolution on how it would handle arbitration to resolve workplace harassment and discrimination complaints has increased to 46% of the vote at the annual meeting, up from 27% for a similar proposal in 2020.
