Michael Che jokes that he “unfinished” SNL amid speculation about his future on the show

Michael Che joked that he was “un-quit” Saturday night live, amid speculation about his future on the show.

During the “Weekend Update” segment of the most recent episode (May 14), the comedian teased that he had to withdraw his retirement from the show due to the “wrong number” announced for the $86 Mega Millions jackpot.

His joke relates to a recent interview with The New York Times, in which he revealed his comedy sketch show sequel may be coming to an end soon.

“My head has been dying for the last five seasons,” he said. “I think I’ve been here longer than I’ll be here.

“This show is made for younger voices and at some point after halftime of the show there will be something more exciting to watch than me and dumb Jost,” he added.

Che was hired as a writer for SNL in 2013 and shortly thereafter in 2014 was offered a spot on the show.

He’s not the only comedian to mention a possible exit. In a 2020 interview with IndieWirePete Davidson teased his eventual departure.

“I have a weird feeling in this building where I don’t know whose team they play for,” Davidson said.

“Whether I’m the joke or if I join in the joke. i really wanted to [2019] my last year but i’m still here trying to beat it away.
