Mets’ Francisco Alvarez keeps showing his power ahead of relegation

Here are some notable nuggets that happened during Monday’s Mets spring training action:
Alvi Hammer
Promising Francisco Alvarez, the 20-year-old catcher who’s 1-on-4 with a homer this spring, hit a couple of doubles in intrasquad play. Alvarez was sent to minor league camp later Monday.

Bat is ok
James McCann hit well, but the catcher didn’t complete the bases after contact. The Mets believe he will be ready after Tuesday’s stiff back.
I noticed
The umpires in intrasquad play were still checking pitchers’ hands and fingers for foreign matter as they left the mound. “We want them to do that,” manager Buck Showalter said. “We want our boys to get used to it.”
Schedule for Tuesday
The Mets travel to Jupiter, Florida to face the Marlins. Chris Bassitt will make his Grapefruit League debut after throwing four scoreless innings in a minor league intrasquad game last week.
