Mercedes Rally Gets DON’T latest, Verstappen WIN controversial world title

Mercedes is set to appeal the F1 bosses’ decision to reject their objections to the results of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Merc star Lewis Hamilton was won by Red Bull’s Max Verstappen after a controversial safety car decision on the final lap of the season.

Race director Michael Masi allowed some – but not all – cars to pass safely before signaling the race could continue.

Verstappen initially had five cars between him and frontman Hamilton before there was a call for them to pass.

This decision allowed the Dutchman the air to attack his English opponent and he quickly flew past him with a new set of tyres.

The Fuming Merc captains then fought a four-hour battle to overturn the checkered flag at the Yas Marina Circuit.

Their appeal was ultimately denied on Sunday night – but they have now signaled their intention to bring in a further legal challenge.

As announced on Sky Sports News, Merc said it will take its case to the FIA appeals court.

The team has 96 hours to make their submission – if unsuccessful, the next step will be to take it to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland. Mercedes Rally Gets DON’T latest, Verstappen WIN controversial world title
