Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s much-anticipated trip to the UK will “venture them into the lion’s den,” according to self-proclaimed royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams.
The couple are set to visit Harry’s home country and Germany for three charity events next month, their rep told Page Six earlier this week.
The Sussexes packed up and moved across the pond to Montecito, California, desperate for privacy.
However, during their time in the Golden State, the royals have pulled off a number of high-profile events, most notably their bombastic interview with Oprah Winfrey last year.
And according to royal author Fitzwilliams, the couple’s decision to go public with their story is sure to make their upcoming visit to the UK a “rather difficult” one.
“What’s happened in that time is that her ratings have gone down phenomenally,” Fitzwilliams told Newsweek. “Their popularity has plummeted in the UK.”
“You know when they come out they’re at war here with the press, it’s more like venturing into the lion’s den now because you’ve got the public not supporting them and the press that she vehemently opposes – and then you also have the royal family, where there is a rift,” he added.
Harry, 37, and Markle, 41, last visited the UK in June to attend Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations with their two children, Archie, 3, and Lilibet, 1.
It comes as another royal expert, Angela Levin, claimed Markle and Harry are “trying to start an alternative, woke royal family.”
Levin – a well-known biographer of Prince Harry and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall – claims the Duke and Duchess of Sussex cloak themselves in “the splendor and splendor that surrounds them” after announcing their trip to the UK.
