MD-Bred Knicks Begins Railroad Draw In Effort To Repeat At Pegasus World Cup – CBS Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WJZ) – The Maryland-bred Knicks Go has drawn attention in its bid for a repeat as Pegasus World Cup champion, race organizers announced Tuesday.
Paynter’s 6-year-old Kosmo’s Buddy will face eight other opponents at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, including one of the runners-up, Stiletto Boy, which he beat his last, Grade I Breeders ‘Cup Classic in November’.

Sir Winston, 2019 Belmont Stakes winner, is also in the nine-horse field. Aside from Knicks Go and Life Is Good, no other horse has single-digit odds.
It was the 2021 edition of the Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes that catapulted Knicks Go into his stellar campaign with five wins in seven classified races. The gray pony took the lead at jockey Joel Rosario and never gave up the lead, winning by 2 3/4 of the length.
Following that win, the Knicks Go finished fourth in the Saudi Cup and the Hill ‘N’ Dale Metropolitan Handicap before snapping up wins at Prairie Meadows Cornhusker Handicap, Whitney Stakes, Lukas Classic Stakes and Breeders’ Cup Classic for coach Brad Cox.

The Knicks Go became the first Maryland cross to win the Breeders’ Cup Classic, one of the most prestigious races in horse racing, since Cigar in 1995. A year earlier, another horse from Maryland, Concern, won the Classic for owner and breeder Robert E. Meyerhoff.
Angie Moore and her daughter Sabrina bred Knicks Go at GreenMount Ranch in Reisterstown.
In December, Sabrina Moore to Denise Koch of WJZ is a slightly stubborn pony.
“He was a tough kid but not bad,” she said. “He just knew what he wanted and he got it.”
On Tuesday, Knicks Go was named Longines World’s Best Racehorse of 2021.
