Mayorkas says he wasn’t aware Jankowicz called Hunter Biden’s laptop ‘disinformation’.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas insisted Wednesday that he was unaware that the person who put his department in charge of the Orwellian “Disinformation Governance Board” had once called Hunter Biden’s laptop Russian disinformation.
Mayorkas, who testified before the Senate Budget Committee, was grilled over the hiring of Nina Jankowicz as DHS’s “disinformation czar” and the board she chairs, which its critics have dubbed the “Ministry of Truth.”
Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) pressed Mayorkas on who hired Jankowicz and whether the secretary knew of her comments about the laptop that became the basis of a series of The Post’s blockbuster revelations in October 2020.
“When the department selected her, did she know she had said that Mr. Hunter Biden’s laptop is Russian disinformation?” Kennedy questioned him.
“I wasn’t aware of that, but we don’t discuss the internal hiring process. Ultimately, as Secretary, I am responsible for the decisions of the Department of Homeland Security,” Mayorkas replied.

Kennedy then asked if Mayorkas knew that Jankowicz vouched for the accuracy of the Steele dossier, which has since been discredited.
“Senator, let me repeat myself and add one additional fact. First, we don’t discuss internal hiring processes. Second, I wasn’t aware of it,” Mayorkas tried to explain.
“Third, as Secretary of Homeland Security, I am responsible for the department’s decisions, and to my knowledge, Ms. Jankowicz is a subject matter expert in the area in which she will be working on behalf of the department.” He continued.
“I can say it,” Kennedy shot back.
Mayorkas also claimed he was unaware of chilling TikTok videos Jankowicz made of her singing a rendition of the Mary Poppins tune “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” over fake news.
“Information laundering is really quite cruel. It’s when a huckster takes some lies and makes them sound precocious by saying them in Congress or in a mainstream outlet, so the origins of the disinformation are a little less gruesome,” Jankowicz sang in the February 2021 video.

Kennedy continued his questions about the board, citing the example of former President Bill Clinton denying having had sex with White House intern Monica Lewinski and asking Mayorkas if Jankowicz’s board would investigate.
“Senator, let me clarify once again that the Department’s responsibility is to combat disinformation that threatens the security of the homeland. And more importantly, the working group was set up because this disinformation work has been going on for almost 10 years,” Mayorkas replied
“The working group was set up precisely to protect against violations of individuals’ first amendment rights, precisely to protect their right to privacy,” the secretary said.
When his round of questioning ended, Kennedy suggested a job for Mayorkas when he returned to DHS, saying he should confront the person who recommended Jankowicz be hired and “I would fire him right now.”
