May 13th Overwatch 2 Beta update adds new Mercy ability and improves Soujourn: Patch Notes

A new Overwatch 2 beta patch has landed on PC, bringing a wild new ability to Mercy alongside some buffs to Baptiste and Sojourn.

As Dexerto previously reported, the Overwatch 2 developers have implemented a new feature that allows Mercy players to “super jump” without it being an advanced technology.

Now when players break off their Guardian Angel by crouching, they will be launched high into the air. This should make them much more difficult to hit and allow Mercy players to reach new heights.

However, the developers may try to improve this supplement in the future, so don’t consider this the final version just yet.

Baptiste has seen his healing improve.

Also, Baptiste’s regeneration boost will have a lot more instant healing as it now heals 50 HP to start and then 50 HP over time, with critically low allies getting double that.

Finally, Sojourn also gets a boost with railgun ammo, while her primary rate of fire increases from 13 to 15 shots per second.

We’ll have to see how this patch ultimately changes gameplay and if it also pushes the Overwatch League meta up in the process.

HEROES

Merciful

  • Guardian Angel: Can now also be canceled with the crouch button. If this button is used to cancel the ability, Mercy will be launched high into the air.

developer notes: This is a first implementation of a new functionality intended to give Mercy players more options when using Guardian Angel. Some Mercy players have already been able to perform similar boosts using a somewhat complicated technique often referred to as “super jump”. This new functionality allows all players to run similar boosts more consistently while the original technique is still present and untouched.

In a way, this new null boost is even more powerful than the original technique, as players can do it at any time instead of requiring them to be close to their target. This is just a first implementation and we look forward to feedback on how we can improve it.

baptiste

  • Regenerative Burst: Now heals for 50 instantly and for 50 over time instead of 100 over time. Also, the instant heal portion is doubled on targets with 50% or less health (Please note that we are aware of an issue where this ability is not updating on the hero information screen.)
  • Regenerative Burst: No longer double heals Baptiste

developer notes: This change will help bolster Baptiste as a support hero who can save allies in clutch moments. This new functionality is intended to work in concert with the Immortality Field, allowing for faster recovery after rescuing his allies (or himself!) from imminent danger.

visit

  • Railgun primary rate of fire increased from 13 to 15 shots per second
  • Railgun max ammo increased from 40 to 45

Developer Notes: Sojourn has been a bit weak since her first inclusion in the roster. While this change doesn’t seem like a huge change, increasing her rate of fire increases her alternate fire charge rate and ultimate gain, as well as her primary fire’s raw DPS.

As a weapon’s rate of fire changes, so does how quickly the weapon depletes its magazine and runs out of ammo. We’re increasing their ammo count to compensate.
