Marc Lamont Hill’s Uncle Bobbie’s Books & Coffee in Germantown promotes black education and activism

GERMANTOWN, Pa. – “There’s something special about walking into a bookstore as a black or brown person and seeing someone who looks like you on the cover and pages,” says Marc Lamont Hill, owner of Uncle Bobbies Coffee & Books.

The Germantown Bookstore is a Black owned bookstore that stocks books about Black culture and Black ideas written by Black authors.

‘Cool people. Stupid books. “Great Coffee” is the store’s slogan and that’s what it wants to bring to the Germantown community.

The bookstore and cafe are named after Lamont Hill’s uncle, who taught him the importance of reading and activism.

Lamont Hill says, “Uncle Bobbie’s house was the place to go for more than good food, conversation, and family. But also to learn about black ideas. To really learn about black writers. To find out what was going on in the world.”
