Mandatory cremation scheduled Monday at Sylvan Rodriguez Park in Clear Lake

The Houston Fire Department says it will be part of a controlled burn that began around 10 a.m. at Sylvan Rodriguez Park near Ellington Field.

Weather permitting, the incineration is expected to help reduce the potential fire hazard from accumulated vegetation.

As this is a controlled burn, Houston firefighters and air quality control experts will be there to monitor the burn.

However, if you drive in the area or near the park, authorities recommend slowing down as the smoke can make it difficult to see.
