Ralf Rangnick explained why he named a team unchanged for his first Manchester United in charge of the match and stated that Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard were absent because Crystal Palace scuffle after ‘feeling the pain’ in practice.

Rangnick started his reign as interim manager of Manchester United with the club seventh in the Premier League, six points behind fourth-placed West Ham and 14 points behind leaders Chelsea.

Much has been made of Rangnick’s footballing style since his appointment and the 63-year-old explains what fans can expect from his side during Palace’s visit to the Old Trafford.

He said: ‘My football is definitely not a slow waltz! I’m not that far apart [Liverpool manager] Jurgen Klopp on our idea of ​​a football style. That’s not a secret.

‘But you have to know what kind of players you have and their position. I can’t ask them what they can’t offer right now.

‘I have to get them [the Manchester United players] and accept their current location. They are experienced and smart enough to know it.

‘I can’t turn the players we have into the urgent monsters I want them to be in for two, three or four weeks.’

Meanwhile, former Arsenal midfielder Vieira made two changes from Crystal Palace’s 1-0 loss to Leeds United in midweek, with Nathaniel Clyne replacing Joel Ward and Christian Benteke coming on for Odsonne Edouard .
