Ralf Rangnick has been officially confirmed as the new coach of the Austria national team – but will remain in an advisory capacity at Man United.

The German has agreed a two-year deal with the Austrian Football Association to lead the national team until Euro 2020.

However, the 62-year-old will combine his new job with an advisory role at United and insists he is committed to helping the club rebuild.

In a statement, Rangnick said: “I will take over as Austria national team manager at the end of the season but will continue my coaching at Manchester United.

“I’m really looking forward to playing my part in United becoming a real force.”

Rangnick will only work at Old Trafford six days a month in his advisory role.

And he is expected to play a big part in helping Erik ten Hag recruit.

That comes after United’s head of corporate development resigned on Friday.

In his role as Matt Judge, he led transfer and contract negotiations.

But he is now serving his notice period and will not play an active role in any signings this summer.

Finally, Man Utd are set to hold talks with Cristiano Ronaldo over his future this summer.

Rangnick confirmed: That’s something we should talk about between Erik and the board and me.

“Cristiano has another year of contract. It’s also important to find out what he wants if he wants to stay.

“In the end, it’s both Erik’s and Cris’ decision what to do.

“It’s not my place to talk about it, but Cris’ performance (against Chelsea) was really great.”
