MARCUS RASHFORD’s lack of killer instincts was met with groans around Old Trafford in a poor performance against Aston Villa in the FA Cup.
Fans find themselves especially disappointed because Rashford missed a tap.
The Old Trafford stands lamented when their No 10 was left-footed and couldn’t keep up with the touch after Mason Greenwood’s effort was saved by Emiliano Martinez.
At the time, Dion Dublin said on the commentary: “It happened a couple of times tonight, Rashford just followed in his footsteps.
“If he’s on the front foot, he’ll get a touch. It doesn’t look like he wants to go and score himself a simple goal.
“He’s dislocated his leg if he keeps running. Doesn’t he look pretty frustrated? I haven’t seen him smile in a long time.
“I would like to see him enjoy his football again, he has the world at his feet. He is a very good player.”
In the BBC studio, Alan Shearer added: “I don’t want to get rid of Marcus Rashford, but he lacks confidence, we don’t know what’s going on in his personal life…
“But I just think everything looks to be a huge effort for him at this point.
“There’s no spark there, he looks very flat.
“He started from the first five or ten minutes and I thought ‘we’ll start’, get back to his best form and have a little bit of excitement about him.
“But once in the first half at the end, and then in the second half when Greenwood cut in from the right, he just stood still.”
Rashford, 24, who looked a bit dejected on the bench after being substituted late in the second half, has missed the start of this season through a shoulder injury.
Since returning three months ago, he has only scored three goals in 14 appearances and has not scored since October.
