Man struck by multiple vehicles, killed on I-440 WB; Road closed


RALEIGH, NC (WNCN) – A busy section of westbound Interstate 440 is closed Wednesday morning after a man was struck and killed on the road, according to Raleigh Police.

Police told CBS 17 that at 3:55 a.m. a call came in regarding a pedestrian being hit near the Lake Boone Trail exit on westbound I-440

Officers arrived at the scene and found a dead man on the street. Police said the pedestrian was hit by multiple vehicles, but they’re not sure how many.

Several vehicles believed to have run over the man remained at the scene, police said.

The westbound portion of I-440 between Exit 5 (Lake Boone Trail) and Exit 4 (Wade Avenue) is currently closed.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation estimates the road will reopen around 8 a.m
