A man has been stabbed on London’s Oxford Street as police arrest the suspect in front of horrified shoppers, reports say.

Police were called to Oxford Street at 8pm on 23 February to reports of a man with multiple stab wounds.

Officers attended along with paramedics from the London Ambulance Service.

The man was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.

His condition is not believed to be life-threatening.

A man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault.

Footage shows ambulances on London’s main shopping street while someone can be heard saying: “It’s a madhouse. Someone has just been stabbed here.”

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called at 4:13pm today (February 22) to reports of a stabbing on High Street, Barkingside, Ilford.

“We have dispatched a fleet of ambulances, a team leader in the car, a paramedic in the rapid response car and an incident response officer. We have also dispatched the Air Ambulance of the company. London.”
